This episode continues where I left off with Part 1.  For a much deeper look at 802.11 deployment recommendations take a look at the paper I wrote for the Wi-Fi Alliance that discusses enterprise 802.11n deployment considerations.  You can download the paper from their website here (registration required).

Episode 1 – Practical tips for enterprise wireless LANs (Part 1)

I hope you enjoyed Episode 1 of Mobility Moment.  Listed below are links to additional information.

I  wrote a paper that delves deeply into 802.11n and asks the question, “Is 802.11n the end of Ethernet?”.  The paper is available for free from the Aruba Networks website.  Click here to download (no registration).

I gave a talk at the FinSec conference in New York City on the topic “Maintaining security as you upgrade to 802.11n”.  Although the talk was presented in December 2008, the content is still very relevant.  You can download the slides here (no registration).

Mobility Moment is now live!

by Paul DeBeasi on Jan.19, 2010, under Network Management, Security, Wireless LAN

We live in an increasingly mobile world. More than half the people on earth have a mobile phone so it should come as no surprise that there are more calls made using a mobile phone than a traditional telephone.  In fact, many mobile professionals are blending their personal and professional lives by using sophisticated smartphones such as the Apple iPhone.

Unfortunately, mobile devices, whether they are smartphones, laptops, or netbooks, present numerous problems for the enterprise. They represent a security risk if they are lost or stolen.  They are difficult for information technology (IT) professionals to manage, especially if the devices are designed for the consumer or owned by the employee.  In addition, mobile users expect pervasive wireless LAN coverage but some enterprises are slow to transition to the all-wireless enterprise.    Many IT professionals feel as though they are under attack from mobile professionals that demand the ability to use their mobile devices wherever, whenever, and however they choose.

The Mobility Moment show helps IT and security professionals learn about, deploy, and manage mobile devices, services, and networks in the enterprise.   Mobility Moment is interesting, informative, and professionally produced.  And since each episode lasts only five minutes, it takes just a moment to watch.  Please let me know what you think.
